Aime and Carol at the Breakwater

Acrylic painting

I made this painting of an amazing person, my dearest cousin Aime, while she was going through a very rough period, a bad health scare. She thought she was going to lose her life. The painting shows Aime and her wife, Carol, kissing at the breakwater in Rockland, Maine. I painted it while I was staying with Aime and Carol in their home in Maine during the summer of 2020, or 2021—I don’t recall because frankly the pandemic has largely been a blur. But my time with Aime and Carol was bright and crystal clear. With this painting, I was trying to cast magic spells to help encourage Aime and Carol to keep fighting, to help brighten their lives, and my life, during a dark time. With this painting, I was trying to paint a prayer that would endure as long as the painting could be looked at. With this painting, I was trying to channel gay healing angels and lesbian spirits.
